About Us

SVH Project Deafblind was initiated in 2004. A management team was constituted from among the Governing Body and General Body members. Members of this team offer their services honorary. This team generally has its quarterly meeting at the registered office.

The project is a step forward to offer services to the persons with deafblindness and multiple disabilities with visual impairments through need-based and age-appropriate early intervention services and guidance and counseling to the parents. The vision is to transform the lives of these people who live in life-limiting conditions. The project is home-based one, where a specially trained educator visits the residence of a child/adult twice a week, thereby providing life-skill training for 6-7 hours per week. The service model is one child/adult : one educator. Initially there were 5 children under this project; now we are covering 43 children, young adults and adults. Our mission is to pave the way for inclusion of these children and young adults in society.

The geographical area of the Project is limited to Kolkata and the districts of North & South 24 Parganas, and Howrah. 3 orphanages under the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata are included in the activities.

The management team consists of the President, Vice president, Treasurer, Joint Secretary and six other members. 6 full- time  and 2 part-time teachers work with the children and young adults at their residences. Six teachers have RCI qualifications. One part-time assistant teacher works at Dayadan Home, who is visually impaired.
