IMF Adventure Camp, 2015

This Adventure Camp for the persons with deafblindness and multiple disabilities was held at Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary, Odisha, on March 28-31. There were 22 participants from West Bengal, and 6 from Odisha. Of them, SVH students numbered 16 and 6 from Behala Bodhayan.

The girl participants stayed in tents, while the male participants were accommodated in a community hall within the sanctuary. Activities were planned according to their abilities, as well as the aim was to familiarise them with the challenges in a jungle camp. These were rope knots practice, rock climbing, river crossing with the help of rope, walking on rope bridge, listening and tracking bird call in the morning, and reaching to the top of Udaygiri caves and Khandagiri.

In the evening they were thrilled with stories and shows of mountain adventures, sharing of experiences by a professional elephant carer (mahut), and of course, the antakshari.

The instructors were the mountaineers who enjoyed the company of the participants who have different degrees of special needs. They felt enriched with this new experience of teaching difficult games to them.
