Welcome to SVH

Society for the Visually Handicapped (SVH), a non-government and non-profit organization, was founded in 1983. The founder members were a group of committed persons who devoted their time for education resource support to the students with visual impairment engaged in higher education. SVH, is managed entirely by a group of volunteers. SVH functions with an annually elected body of office bearers, a governing body and 31 general body members.

  • SVH is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1961 Govt. of West Bengal, No. 40246 of 1982-83
  • SVH is recognized by the Office of the Commissioner of Disability, West Bengal
  • SVH is recognized by the National Trust Act, 1999


SVH has three centres of operation, besides its registered office. These are located at

  • Braille and Audio Library Section, West Bengal State Central Library, opp. ESI Hospital, Kankurgachi, Kolkata 700054 (Mon-Fri: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
