Mithu Karmakar

Mithu  Karmakar, a blind woman of 24 years, by Welfare Society for the Blind. She was a student of Computer Training at that institute after completing her graduation. There it was identified that she had hearing impairment, and tried to hide that by keeping her isolated from other trainees. Her mother was reluctant to accept this. After much persuasion, Mithu came to SVH Deafblind Resource Centre in 2008. Since then she is involved with us. She had vocational training at Calcutta Blind School (2009-10) for 18 months.

Mithu always takes part in all our advocacy programmes. She walks with the mebers, teachers and volunteers on 3rd December for the rights of the persons with disability. In 2012,she took part in a drama which spoke of the rights of the persons with multiple disabilities.

Now she is a regular contributor at the vocational unit, and finds pleasure in making paper products, costume jewellery and hand printing. Her regular attendance at the centre not only satisfies our endeavor, but had definitely enhanced her confidence.
